Our Story

I started writing this post many many months ago, but then got distracted.  A recent twitter pic of a rather famous mamma-to-be brought the memories flooding back!

I have told the story of our pregnancy about a billion times, and it is always with a smile and fondness that I think about that moment. It is a simple story.

We were very lucky. A few months into our cross country move we had a three second, possibly four second conversation, and concluded, sure. Kids. We’re ready! And in the blink of an eye, we had a pink positive sign, and an appointment to confirm.

Heartbeat{s}

Being the novice pregnant couple that we were, I went to the OB alone. When asked if I wanted to try and hear a heartbeat, I was all over that. I was a little sad Hubs wasn’t there, but figured we had lots more chances for him to hear the peanut. So, that black and white fuzzy screen appears. I confess I had a “Rachel” from Friends moment. I really didn’t know what I was looking for. Then, the tech said, “uh oh.”

Not what you want to hear… the brain races through all the worst case scenarios that elicit an “uh oh.” She quickly smiles and reassures me it’s a good “uh oh.” I’m all, “what’s a good UH OH?!?”

It’s Twins.

The shock wore off, eventually. Today, the monsters are about to turn double digits. That’s right. 1-0.

Wonder what it’s like having twins? This is on of my favorite twin cartoons that illustrates the Q&A that surrounds having twins. I can imagine higher order of multiples get even more.

Welcome to the Club Beyoncé!

And now, Beyoncé is joining the twin mom club! I imagine she will have a few things I did not have at my disposal when our monsters were born. If I gave her my wish list of MUST have items, they would be, in no particular order:

  • A Night Nurse. For the entire first year. Our monsters were good sleepers but it took almost a year for them to make it through the night.
  • The Option of Working at Home. I was lucky enough to work from home before and after the monsters were born. Eight weeks of bed rest make an office commute impossible!
  • A Personal Chef. This is still a dream of mine. The kitchen and I are constantly at odds.
  • A Clone of Myself. That could do, well everything! I’ll confess, still on my wish list too!
  • A Pediatrician on Speed Dial. The Hubs fills this role nicely for us and our friends and our family!

Do You have Twins? What were Your MUST have items? What Would Your Wish List Include?

It’s a fun club to be in, this twin mamma club. There are days and most definitely stages that are mighty challenging with twins. (Think potty training.) And then there are events and stages in life when I consider our family lucky we get to do it all at once.

It may be a whirlwind of chaos most of the time, but the Hubs and I would not have it any other way.

Good luck to the Queen B and Jay Z!
