Summer break is almost here! Maybe you have some vacation plans, and other things planned for this break. But, if you’re like my family, after a couple of weeks, the kids have done “everything” at home already.
Luckily, there are plenty of summer camps in the Corpus Christi Area. These fun camps are just the solution to those long and sometimes boring summer days.
Featured Camp
Our Featured Partner, Play Out Loud Music is holding summer camps and workshops all summer long! They offer a wide variety of programs, some for children as young as age 3, as well as adults! Texas State Aquarium
June 15-August 18
Join one of TSA’s week-long camps. Children will enjoy creative play, science, hands-on activities, and more. Each grade-level camp will explore a variety of age-appropriate topics and activities. Camp runs from 9 am-4:15 pm. (Sea Squirt’s have half-day sessions). On Friday afternoon, after Sea Camp ends, they will have a parent and child afternoon at the Texas State Aquarium. Friday’s admission for a guardian to explore the Aquarium with their child will be included.
Grades: Pre-K-9th Grade.

The Aquarium at Rockport Harbor’s Sea Science Mini-Camp
June 20-22 and July 18-20
The Aquarium Education Center is offering a mini-camp for kids ages 11-14 only. Kids will study the ocean and marine life, learn kayak skills, and more. Email [email protected] or call 361-727-0016. Mini-camp is from 9 am-12 pm.

Art Museum of South Texas

Choose from different sessions like Art, Drama, Comic-book art, Music and Movement, Mixed-Media, and more! Sessions 1-5 and 7-9 are held at the Art Museum, while Session 6 is held at the Garcia Arts & Education Center. 9 am-3:30 pm.

Rockport Center for the Arts: ArtSpace
June 12-July 28
The Rockport Center for the Arts is offering the ArtSpace: Youth Summer Art Explorations program. This is their 20th annual FREE summer program for kids and teens. This camp is free for all students who attend school in Aransas County. All camp sessions last one week. You may choose either a morning or afternoon session for that week. 9:30 am-Noon or 1:30-4 pm
Grades: 1-8
Cost: Free for Aransas County students or $75 per week for children who attend school outside Aransas County.
Rockport Center for the Arts: ArtSpace
Harbor Playhouse Community
June 5-August 4
The Harbor Playhouse will host eight (1 -week) camp sessions. Sessions run from June 5th-August 4th. Children ages 6-14 can create, produce, and perform on stage. They will build acting, dance, music, voice, and leadership skills.
Cost: $175 per camper, per session. (Scholarships are available.) Register online.
Summer Science Camp at the Corpus Christi Museum
June 5-August 18
The Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History hosts different theme camps like Space, Ballistics, Engineering, Jurassic Journeys, Robotics, and more! Camp cost includes a week of themed programming, a Wednesday trip to Hurricane Alley, and another field-trip on Thursdays.

Oso Bay Wetlands and Preserve & Learning Center
June 12-August 11
Join the Oso Bay Wetlands for one week sessions of interactive field experiences. Choose from a variety of topics that interest your child. Program runs from 9 am–noon each day. Each week includes an off-site field trip, too.

South Texas Botanical Gardens Kids Summer Camp

The South Texas Botanical Gardens and Nature Center will offer 3 different types of camps: a Kids Basic Birding Camp, a Youth Nature & Photography Camp and Kids Nature Camp.

These week-long camps offer hands on camera experience combined with science and nature. 9 am to Noon.

Owen Hopkins Memorial Kids Rock Camp
Learn about rocks, minerals, and fossils at the Kids Rock Camp. Activities include collecting, identification of rocks and minerals, lapidary arts, and special projects. Attendees receive a t-shirt, too. Registration will open when dates are confirmed.

Islanders Baseball Summer Camps
June 6-August 15
TAMU-CC Islanders Baseball is offering showcase camps, skills camps, and competition camps. The youth skills and competition camps are geared toward children ages 4-14. The high school showcase camps are intended for grades 9th-12th. Choose from the appropriate camps that begin June 6th and run through July 26th. Hooks Baseball Camp
June 21-23 or July 17-19
Hooks Baseball Camp provides instruction in catching, fielding, base-running, hitting and pitching.
The sessions, which run from 9 a.m. until noon, are led by Hooks players, experienced baseball instructors who are ex-professional players, and high school coaches.

The City of Portland Parks and Recreation’s Summer Kidz Kamp
June 5-August 4
The City of Portland Parks and Recreation Department offers a Summer Kidz Kamp program, co-sponsored by Gregory-Portland ISD. The program is offered to children 5-12 years of age who will be entering Kindergarten through 6th grade for the 2017-2018 school year. Activities include games, sports, swimming, science and nature activities, field trips, special events, arts and crafts, healthy eating, and a summer jogging club. The children are grouped by ages and class size is limited. Children must provide their own lunch; a morning and afternoon snack is provided.

Del Mar College: Viking Kids Camp

The Viking Kids Camp program provides a fun opportunity for 3rd through 8th grade students to meet new friends and participate in a structured, informative, non-pressured academic environment. The Garcia Arts & Education center is hosting art, reading, writing, and math camps.
Very Important Kids Camp

The Garcia Arts & Education Center will hold 2 Art Sessions and 2 Reading Sessions. Each session is 2-weeks long. The camp is organized by the Art Museum of South Texas. To register your child, please contact the Garcia Center at 361-825-3600.

Ceramic Camp
Ceramic Camp is coming to the Garcia Center in summer 2017! The camp is hosted by the Art Museum of South Texas and takes place at the Garcia Center, 2021 Agnes St. Please visit the Art Museum’s camp page, where details will be posted.
Barrio Writers
August 7-12
Students age 13-21: Join our week-long college-level creative writing program hosted by Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Learn & practice different forms of writing (poetry, spoken word, hip-hop, short stories, essay), learn about pathways to college, and take field trips.
Barrio Writers will take place at the Antonio E. Garcia Arts & Education Center. The Garcia Center is a part of the College of Education and Human Development at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
Participation is free. However, space is limited, so register to reserve your spot.
Math Camp
August 7-18
Strengthen your math skills, meet new friends, do fun activities, and get free stuff! Math camp will include a field trip to the TAMUCC Campus, breakfast, lunch, snacks, school supplies, and more! This camp is for incoming 6th graders who struggle in math. Preference goes to students from the following partner schools: Oak Park Elementary, Zavala, George Evans, TG Allen, or Garcia.
