Ode To All My Moms

Ode To All My Moms - Corpus Christi Moms BlogBecoming a mom myself has made Mother’s Day that much more special. Mainly because I am now the one being celebrated and what’s not to love about that?

I’m kidding (mostly.)

Becoming a mother has really made me appreciate my own mom even more!

And my step-mom. And my mom-in-law. With Mother’s Day just around the corner, this has been weighing heavily on my mind lately.

So, this one is an ode to all my moms!

I want you to know that I will never not need you. Remember last year when we came to visit and you had to come home from work to take care of my child while I died a slow, painful, stomach bug induced death? That is proof.

I am so thankful for how you raised me. You raised me to be nice and to love everyone, to not blow all my money, and to know how to pay bills, schedule doctor appointments, and go get my oil changed.

When I asked what your favorite part of motherhood was, you said knowing you had a hand in raising children that grew up to be amazing people – the type of people you would want to hang out with even if you weren’t their mom.

First, thank you for recognizing me for the amazing human being that I am. Second, and in all seriousness, we feel the same way about you! I consider myself out-of-this-world lucky to call you a friend, and even if you weren’t my mom, that wouldn’t change. You’re absolutely one of my very favorite people on planet Earth.

ccmbStep-mom,

It can’t be easy to join a family and “step” (ha!) into a mom role to two adult step daughters, but you have really embraced the step-mom title and I am so thankful! I love that we can bond over being girl moms and our mutual love of working out.

Most importantly, you love our dad and make him happy. You’ve been there for better or worse, in sickness and in health, and for that, we could never thank you enough.

I knew what your answer would be right away when I asked what your favorite part of motherhood was: watching your daughter excel in what she’s good at. I am so encouraged by all the support you give her to chase her dreams! Honestly, I feel like you have raised her to truly believe that she can do anything she puts her mind to. I love that and hope I can raise my daughter to believe the same!

I’m not sure I can find the words to express how fortunate I feel to have married the man you raised, which is really unfortunate since this is a blog post made of up… words! I’ll never understand just exactly how you were able to raise such amazing men (not one, but three!), but I have a feeling you would tell me it took a lot of patience and a lot of prayer.

I have loved watching you with our little girl now that all those boys are grown. From the bottom of my heart, I truly appreciate the time and effort you put into seeing and knowing her.

You said one of your favorite parts of motherhood was holding little hands. I want you to know you passed that down to your son as well. He tried so hard for so long to get our daughter to hold his hand, and when she finally did, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen his face light up so much. I know there are many other traits he’ll have as a parent that he will have picked up from you. I’m so thankful for the amazing example you have been for the both of us.

So, what has your favorite part of motherhood been?

Let us know, and ask all your moms – you might be surprised to hear what they have to say!
