Mother’s Day Out Saved Me

2

Mother’s Day Out. It really is a glorious thing. Something many stay at home mommas don’t even consider. But they should! Oh they should, they should, they should.  Not only is it awesome for moms but its great for the kids too.  They learn all sorts of things!

And listen up you guys. These programs fill up fast and you DO NOT want to miss out.  April is typically the month when MDO programs start taking registration and applications.

Act now ladies. For your sake.  For your child’s sake.  For the sake of humankind.  Ok…that last one was a bit overboard…you get the picture.

So.  Without further ado I present the 5 reasons you NEED to get your child into Mother’s Day Out if they already aren’t.

1. If you don’t already have an overflowing collection of mom buds it will help you attain an overflowing collection of mom buds

Who doesn’t want that kind of collection?! I have so many friends.  Not to boast.  Unfortunately, many of these lovelies are in other cities and even other states! I know.  I don’t know how I manage.  Oh wait.  Yes I do.  I have friends where I live.  And where did I meet these friends, you might ask? Well at Mother’s Day Out of course.  You have an entire group of women just like you at your disposal.  To vent to, to ask where the best park is, to check to see if that’s really a rash or if its just jelly.  And the best part is that you can’t wait to see your mommy friends every Tuesday and Thursday mornings (or whenever). When said mommies are spotted you break into your happy dance and run joyfully towards them to tell them all about how little Timmy FINALLY pooped in the potty last night!  Because, honestly, that’s all we moms talk about.

2. It helped my kids socialize so that I didn’t have to make them at the park

Let’s face it.  We all have that one kid who when approached by another kid slinks off into the corner to “play with the wall” and swears the wall is so much more interesting than those happy, playing kiddos over there.  No matter what I did, I could not EVER get my kids to go play with the other kids.  Once I got my guys into MDO they finally starting making friends and realizing that not every other child was a spawn of Satan. Well, maybe some were…   That’s a topic for another day.  Not only has MDO opened them up to other kids and the idea of friendships but it has helped them talk to other adults and not cling to my leg like Velcro.

3. It gave them a “heads-up” before starting Kindergarten

Most kids have no idea what is about to hit them when it comes to school.  The waking up early, the cafeteria lunch, the paperwork, the scheduling, the mass overload of information, the having to take orders from adults other than immediate family members.  I knew Kindergarten was going to be a complete shock for my children.  Because I am a SAHM, they were stay at home kids.  I HAD to get them into something.  Along came MDO.  Two days a week, easy “lessons”, fun setting.  It was perfect.  And it helped my kids realize there was an entirely new world outside of our house and the grocery store.

4. It gave ME a “heads-up” before they started Kindergarten

See number 3 except imagine yourself going through all those things as well.  Ouch.  Not to mention the “letting go” stage! Don’t even get me started.  If it wasn’t for already going through my first son’s MDO “graduation” I would have been sobbing the entire first week of Kindergarten.  Luckily, I only sobbed through the first three days.

5. I got to go to the grocery store. BY MYSELF!

Do I even have to explain this one?! The first time I went to grocery shopping by myself I felt like it was free-reign.  I could do whatever, whenever, for however long I wanted to with NO ONE begging me for chocolate and crayons and asking to go pee every five seconds.  It was glorious.  And all this time later it is STILL glorious.

Whatever your reasons to check it out or not to, just check it out.  It’s at least worth the look and consideration.  Registration is drawing near.  And let’s be honest.  You can totally play it off like your putting your kids in MDO for their benefit when in reality it’s so you don’t lose your ever-loving mind.  You’ll thank me later.

  1. I totally agree! My kiddo started late (in January) but it has been a huge blessing to me and I have seen major improvement from him since going. You better believe when enrollment came around I enrolled two of my four for next year!!
