I am a Proud Pinterest Mom

0

I am a Pinterest mom and I am not afraid to admit it! I love a good craft project, give me a stocked craft room and I can turn out a DIY project in a heartbeat.

I have made alligator Valentine’s boxes for the class exchange, I have helped with several science fair projects and come Christmas time me and the Elf let our creativity soar with each cleverly picked hiding spot!

I have been THAT mom at the soccer games with little soccer players made out of Gatorade bottles, fruit cups and sweet tarts, or personalized bags with each player’s name and soccer balls to decorate the front.

Can I level with you? Here is the thing, I am not the Pinterest mom because I am in some secret competition with the rest of you and I want to show how superior I am with a glue gun. I do not do it because I think my kids will suffer if they go to school with {gasp} store bought valentines and valentines boxes.

No! I am a Pinterest mom because I genuinely love crafting things and seeing them come to life. You will notice if you go through many of my writings here I have done several DIY projects. I just love them! I love scrolling through Pinterest and finding inspiration, then adding my own twist to things to make them my own, or make them fit our needs.

I love getting ideas from the kids of what they would like for the project to look like and seeing if I can pull it off.

A few years ago I did 99% of our Christmas presents to extended family and friends myself, and it was a very long December but it was so satisfying to be able to tell people that their gift was homemade special for them!

I tell you all this because in the land of social media sometimes it can feel like we are all in competition with one another. And when I post the highlight reel of our lives the last thing I want to do is make another momma feel less than because I have gone all out crafting a project for the kids class or team.

Trust me I have been on the flip side of this Pinterest mom thing,  when I was a full time working mom, there was just not enough time for me to do anything homemade or DIY, even though I wanted to. I just didn’t have the bandwidth to take on a project that required more time and energy. At that time working and keeping our family alive was the only thing I had energy for.

I want to encourage both the Pinterest mom and the Anti-Pinterest mom,  if you are doing all that you can do to make it through the day, and the thought of one more project sends you over the edge. Know that you are enough and that your kids won’t remember what snacks you brought to their games. What they will remember is that you were at their games!

They will not remember that you may or may not have spent hours crafting them special boxes or projects. What they will remember is the time you spent together talking about their theme, or that they got to be your helper for the day while you glued and painted or that you strolled the isles of the store together to pick out their perfect valentine.

We are all trying to do our best as moms, and the last thing we need to do is feel like we are in competition with one another. The next time you see a mom showing off her hard DIY project , don’t let it discourage you, reach out and tell her how awesome you think it is that she has the creativity to pull that kind of thing off! On the flip side the next time you see a mom feeling bad about having to buy something from the store because she just does not have the time to make it, reach out and let her know that you think it is awesome that she is providing for her kids!

The world could use less division and competition and more uplifting and encouraging words. In my opinion it all starts with us, the mommas!
