A Celebration of Fatherhood: My Daughter has Two Dads

0

Fathers come in all shapes and sizes and sometimes fathers come in pairs.

Anybody remember the show that aired way back in the early 90’s called My Two Dads?  Yes? No?  Let me refresh your memory.  This was a show about two guys working together to raise the daughter of a woman they both had been madly in love with before she passed away. The crazy part about this show was that neither dad knew which of them was her actual father.  The guys decided that paternity didn’t matter, and they both loved her as their own.

My daughter is a kid with two dads.

These guys couldn’t be more of opposite of each other, but I know they both are wrapped around that girl’s pinky. Although things didn’t turn out ideal with her father, he’s been there for her everyday of her life. My husband met her and became her stepfather when she was 3 years old. She’s now 9. She’s the luckiest girl I know. She has two men who will show her respect and teach her how she should be treated. I feel sorry for the boy who has to come face to face with these guys and ask permission to take her out.

When it comes down to it, paternity doesn’t matter. There’s a sense of teamwork between my daughter’s dads and not competition.

They see the good in each other and respect each other.  There’s a common goal between them: Raise this girl right.

I couldn’t have imagined a better outcome.  Most people are surprised at how well things turned out and at how well we support our daughter.

I’m not even sure if she realizes that having two dads is not traditional.  It’s all she knows and I don’t think she’d have it any other way.

So here’s a huge thank you to the amazing men who are helping me raise an equally amazing daughter.
