Are We There Yet? {Favorite Weekend Getaways}

0

There are five things I think of when the hubs says “let’s go somewhere this weekend:”

  • Woohooo!!! Quickly followed by…Are we there yet--!
  • Is the fur-sitter available?
  • Where will we stay?
  • Must see/do list ASAP
  • Hmm, where did I last see x,y, and z (snorkels, camelbac, charger, seatbelt pillow…) that would be GREAT for this?

Hubs and I have always loved traveling near and far – and have continued getting out and about and doing new and fun things with the monsters.  It is one of the best things about moving to a new place – weekend getaways!

Our first weekend drive to San Antonio landed us at Hyatt Hill Country Resort and Spa. We had super big plans to see the riverwalk and the Alamo, and maybe do a little big city shopping, Costco, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s – but once we drove on property – we parked the car and didn’t see it again until it was time to go home. We have been back on two separate occasions and have had equally delightful and relaxing weekends. (This Hyatt is dog friendly – and they have perfect walk out ground level rooms with nature trails perfect for early morning strolls).

Due to our inability to leave the Hill Country Resort and Spa ’cause it’s just SO relaxing, but we really wanted to see some of what San Antonio has to offer, we booked a weekend at the Hyatt RiverWalk . This time we actually followed the “to do/see” list! We ate and drank our way around the river, careful not to tumble in. We shopped the market square, so many goodies! We ventured through the Alamo, so much smaller then I had imagined. And we did the requested Sea World trip, complete with fast pass and reserved seating, 100% worth the extra fee with monsters in tow!

Recently, since we do not have family in Texas – we decided to head west for a getaway, and as we found out we could drive a loooooonnnng way west and still be in Texas! We booked our dog friendly suite and packed up for a 4 day adventure at the Lajitas Golf Resort, just outside Big Bend National Park.  We swam in the fountain (’cause monsters thought it was the pool), golfed, rode horses, and waded in the Rio Grande – while exploring the all the beauty of the park.

We went to Houston by accident. We missed our flight out of CCIA but had enough time between connections to HAUL and make the flight – it’s really just a quick 3 hrs – and is on our calendar for June. Jimmy Buffett is in town for any other Parrotheads who might be interested!

This vast state has so much to offer, we have a running list of future road trips – Our short list includes:

  • South Padre Island – We have been to the beach a million times, but we go local 🙂 – one of these weekends we hope to visit Schlitterbahn, South Padre Island!
  • Galveston – Beaches, beaches, and the ferris wheel!
  • Fredericksburg – Texas for Oktoberfest!
  • Austin – For their Souht by Southwest (SXSW) music festival and for a million other reasons.
  • Dallas – so I can see the Redskins play this fall.

What are your weekend getaway favorites? What’s on your wish list?

I still haven’t found the snorkels. . . . .

Becki
Becki met the hubs in 1999, married in 2004, and each and every year brings a new adventure! She is a momma to an adventurous set of twins, the monsters, {2007;} spends copious amounts of time chasing after their three fur-babies, and in-between, finds a free minute or two to attend to her day job working for a nonprofit focused on public health preparedness. Becki LOVES anything sugary or caffeinated – so it’s good that she also love to run! She is known to have stayed up FAR to late to read a great book. Becki loves to play soccer, scuba dive, snowboard and travel! Her family is new to Texas, by way of Colorado and Virginia, but having so much fun exploring this great state!
