25 Days of Christmas Service

Christmas for me is about balance. I love snuggling up with Bing Crosby and watching the Holiday Inn. I love gingerbread houses, and writing letters to Santa. I love gathering as a family and reading the Christmas story from the Bible, while we blow out candles on a chocolate cake made just for Jesus. We love driving around to see the lights, and reading Christmas stories. I have “Twas the Night Before Christmas” memorized right along with Luke Chapter 2.

Daily Acts of Service

A Great Way to Maintain Balance in between the Hustle and Bustle

However, in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the Holidays, we may sometimes feel like Cindy Lou Who and wonder, “Where are you Christmas?” Christmas is the Season of Giving, and yet where do we squeeze that in between Holiday choir concerts and work parties? A few years ago our family started a special advent calendar that focuses on small daily acts of service as we count down to Christmas. We found that this was the perfect way to maintain the balance, and focus a little more on the reason for the season.

25 Days of ServiceA Service Advent Calendar

I have created an example of this Advent calendar for you below. You can print off the blank version and fill out your own ideas based on the ages of your family members OR you can use the one that I already filled out for you. Another fun thing we have done is put the calendar ideas right into our actual pocket advent calendar and my kids get so excited to see how we are serving that day! For more ideas check out lighttheworld.org! And tag us in your serving pictures on social so we can follow along with your family!
