I’m pretty sure it’s safe to say that, as moms, we are constantly cleaning out home. Whether it’s dusting, cleaning toilets, or scrubbing floors; it seems like there is always something that needs a good scrub.
But there came a time when it seemed like I needed to clean up my cleaning products. My kids were still young enough that they tried to drink the water in the bathtub, or they wanted to help me scrub the bathroom counter and mirrors. That’s when I started really paying attention to the ingredients in those products… and y’all, it was kind of a shocking realization.
I made the switch to natural products for cleaning, and you can too!
It’s so easy, and you probably already have all the ingredients in your home! Here are some ideas.
All Purpose Cleaner #1
Ingredients: Water and Vinegar. That’s it. Nothing fancy. It’s super cheap and you already have all the ingredients at home.
I get it y’all. You may not be a big fan of the vinegar smell, but it’s 100 times better than breathing in the fumes of toxic chemicals. I’ve tried soaking citrus peels in vinegar to help with the smell, but honestly, it’s still pretty strong. The good thing is that once it dries the vinegar smell goes away. You can use this on your floors, counter tops, mirror, bathtub and toilet. If you still can’t get past the vinegar, try this next recipe.
All Purpose Cleaner #2
Ingredients: Water and Essential Oils.
This is super simple. Get a 16 ounce glass spray bottle to put this in because some essential oils pull out toxins from plastics. Put 15 drops of a quality essential oil of your choice in the bottle and fill the rest with water. Be sure to shake it well before using it! I literally clean my entire home with this. The vinegar was a deal breaker for my husband, so I’m so glad I found this solution. I clean my kitchen, floors, and entire bathroom with this bottle. My favorite essential oils of choice are: lemon, melaleuca, or lavender.
Tub and Toilet Cleaner
Ingredient: Baking Soda
Sometimes you need an abrasive cleaner to take off scummy and yucky things. Enter baking soda. I bought one of those “Parmesan shakers” from the dollar store and I filled it with baking soda. So I spray my tub and toilet with the all purpose cleaner, and then sprinkle this on to help with the cleaning process.
Wood Polish (for Dusting)
Ingredients: Liquid coconut oil, water, and lemon essential oil.
This bottle is about 3/4 water, 1/4 liquid coconut oil, and a few drops of lemon essential oil. Give it a good shake before using. Spray on your wood furniture and polish to your hearts content.
