Team Early Bedtime FTW!

From the beginning my son has been a ridiculously early riser. I am talking 5:45am ridiculous!

Once he was sleeping through the night in his own room, I tried EVERYTHING to get him to sleep longer, but nothing worked. It did not matter if I put him down at midnight, he would still wake up at the crack of dawn ready to go! I KNEW he wasn’t getting enough sleep for such a young kiddo.

So, we settled on giving our kids a very early bedtime.

Team Early Bedtime - Corpus Christi Moms BlogDid you know that the AAP recommends that infants under a year old get 12-16 hours of sleep within 24-hour period?

Did you know that they recommend that children from 3 to 5 years old need get 10-13 hours of sleep within a 24- hour period?

My kids stopped taking naps during the day two years ago, so if I want them to get even close to the recommended amount of sleep for their age, I HAVE to get them to bed early! As a family we made the decision to implement and stick to a 6:30-7pm bedtime.

Yes. You heard me right….even in the summer.

Do we get them to bed that early EVERY night? No. There are times that we stay up late for an event or dinner runs late, so we adjust accordingly.  Now that this is our routine, the majority of the time my kids start asking to go to bed starting at 6pm.

According to an article on Fatherly.com, “[kids getting] ready for bed as early as 7 p.m. could lower their future obesity risk and make them less vulnerable to future illness while priming them for better growth, academic achievement, and emotional wellbeing.”

All of that alone is enough to assure me that we are on the right track when it comes to bedtime!

And, not gonna lie, but a total bonus of an early bedtime, is that it allows me the luxury of either having some quiet time or gives me and the hubs a chance to hang out and relax together! Score!
