Interview with my Tween

{Editor’s Note: This blog post was written many months ago. Mackenzie is now a 7th grader and will be thrilled that this is finally being published.}

So, I decided to do something a little different for this post.

I interviewed my twelve year old. I asked her a series of questions to try and understand life from her perspective. These are her raw and honest answers to my questions.

I won’t lie. I was kind of (really) nervous.

interview with my tween Me: “Please state your full name, age, and grade.”

Mackenzie: “Mackenzie Michelle Brewer, 12, 6th grade

Me: “What do you like most about school?”

Mackenzie: “My friends. And gym class.”

Me: “What do you like least about school?”

Mackenzie: “Math. I’m not good at it.”

Me: “What do you feel are some of your strengths? Weaknesses?

Mackenzie: “My courage, my strong will.  Math and my attitude are my weaknesses.”

Me: “What things do you worry about?”

Mackenzie: “My grades.”

Me: “Would you want to be president some day?”

Mackenzie: “Oh, yeah. I could make this world a much better place. If Trump can be president, I most certainly can.”

Me: “What do you think is the biggest misconception about you?”

Mackenzie: “That I get into a lot of trouble.”

Me: “What do you think your generation will be called?”

Mackenzie: “The movement generation. Every time I go on social media, they are protesting or trying to change things for the better.”

Me: “What are you scared of?”

Mackenzie: “World War III. Trump. I’m really scared of Trump.”

Me: “If you could have dinner with four people, dead or alive, who would they be?”

Mackenzie: “Anne Frank, Michelle Obama, Malala Yousafzai, and Rihanna.

Me: “If you could only have one app on your phone, what would it be and why?”

Mackenzie: “Instagram. It keeps me updated on what’s happening in the world.”

Me: “What do you want to be when you grow up?”

Mackenzie: “I want to be a middle school history teacher or a psychologist. Or a school counselor.”

Me: “Do you want to be a mom some day?”

Mackenzie: “If my kids are anything like, Layton (her brother), then, NO. If they are like me, then, yes.”

Me: “Where do you want to go to college?”

Mackenzie: “I don’t know.”

Me: “What do you want the people reading this to know about you?”

Mackenzie: “I’m really an alien from Jupiter.”

Sigh. And there you have it.

The mind of a tween….or my tween, at least.

I. Need. Wine.

Cheers!
