Memories of Mom- Mother's Day 2016- Corpus Christi Moms Blog

My mom and I don’t always see eye to eye on a lot of things. I am sure that my point of view gets on her nerves, but we love each other. My mom has always done her best, even if she feels that her best wasn’t good enough, it was. When I was growing up, we would go on road trips; which instilled in me a love of traveling.

My mom is the reason that when the Navy moves us, I don’t mind too much. I can be a tourist; all because my mom taught me to see the world through the eyes of a tourist.

One of my favorite trips with my mom was a trip to Dollywood and Gatlinburg in our home state, Tennessee. Oh man, I still remember the beauty of the Smoky Mountains. I know that it was difficult for my mom to take me on these mini-vacations. She was a single parent and worked very hard to make sure that my needs were met. I, of course like any young kid, had wants, but I never went without what really mattered.

I don’t get to see my mom very often because she is enjoying her retirement in Florida and the Navy moves us every 3 to 4 years, we usually talk every other day, if not every day. Truthfully, the relationship that I have with my mom is not what I want it to be. I am pretty darn stubborn and set in my ways (like my mom) so when we get together we probably get on each others nerves, but she is still the one I talk to when I need advice. I am learning that my relationship with my mom may not be what I want, but it’s our relationship. It’s a relationship that can grow and change.

I am realizing that my mom is more than just a mother, she is my friend too. My mom has always had my back, even when I didn’t think she did. My mom has been my #1 fan, my biggest supporter, the one to try to make me smile when I was hurting.

I am who I am today, all because of my mom.
