Join the presentation from the Coastal and Marine Geospatial Lab at Harte Research Institute of “Treasure maps are not just for pirates!” Not only can you use a map to find something, like a treasure, but maps can also be used to discover a hidden pattern or to learn more about our surroundings. The Coastal and Marine Geospatial Lab researchers create and use maps to solve problems and address unanswered questions about the Gulf of Mexico coastline. Come and learn about how these researchers use maps to discover new information about sea turtle habitat and to find ways to protect us from storms and sea level rise. Participants will use a map to find hidden treasures throughout the preserve, discovering fun facts about maps and wetlands along the way. This workshop is apart of a 6 month series with Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies to help students learn about marine science in the Coastal Bend. Program is targeted for students ages 10-18, but everyone is welcome!
