Create a Fun and Easy Dollar Store Easter Centerpiece

1

I really can not explain how much I love to decorate for the holidays! I love getting into the spirit of each holiday, and I enjoy making decorations from scratch. My latest project is an Easter centerpiece made entirely out of dollar-store products and things that I had around the house.

How cute is this?!

Normally, I’m not a big fan of artificial flowers, but I made an exception this time, and I think they turned out beautifully!

HOW TO MAKE THE CENTERPIECE

Supplies Needed- these are all from the dollar store or things that I had laying around my house.

  • clear glass (or plastic) vase
  • artificial flowers
  • glittered Easter eggs
  • Peep Easter Bunny candies
  • Dowel rods or skewers
  • tissue paper
  • green paint
  • paintbrush
  • Acrylic sealer

I had this vase in my hallway closet (I have too many vases in there) and it is pretty large, so I decided to take up some of the room with a big chunk of tissue paper. Just chunk up two or three pieces and throw ’em in there!

The glittered Easter eggs come in several shades, a pretty pastel grouping, and a bright, bold primary color grouping. I chose the pastel eggs, as my house is decorated in neutral shades and I felt that the bright, bold eggs would be too much in my dining room. But, get whichever egg shade makes you the happiest! Decide which egg color you would like to be your base layer, and pop them into the vase. Don’t worry about them being perfect just yet, we will rearrange them later.

Okay, here’s the fun part. You guys, we live in South Texas. The humidity here can do some crazy things. Please, please, please spray your Peeps with an acrylic sealer to preserve them. We don’t want rotting, molding, little mutant Peeps ruining our beautiful centerpiece. Spray one side and let dry for ten minutes, flip over and spray the other side, let dry.

While your Peeps are drying, paint your dowel rods or skewers a grass green. Yes, that is my shishkabob holder serving as a place for my rods to dry. And yes, that is a piece of Tupperware I’m using as a paint bowl. That’s the fun of DIY projects, you guys! I love rummaging around my house finding things that I already have laying around to help me create something beautiful from scratch. Embrace it!

When your Peeps are dry, place them in the vase on top of your first layer of eggs. Layer the last two colors of glitter eggs over the Peeps. If the eggs try to fall down into the Peeps, use a knife to rearrange them.

Here is a detailed picture of my layering. It doesn’t have to be perfect! Arrange your flowers the way that you want them in the vase. It may take a couple of minutes for it to look the way you want them to. Just poke and shove them around the tissue paper.

Okay, I think my favorite part of this project was putting the leftover Peeps on the dowel rods. I mean, what is cuter than a Peep on a stick?! Place the dowel rod Peeps into your flower arrangement. And viola, you have a beautiful, handmade Easter centerpiece! I calculated the cost of my centerpiece, and I figured up that I spent about $11 on the centerpiece, as I already had the vase, tissue paper, dowel rods, paint, and acrylic sealer.

This is a fun and quick DIY project that will wow your guests! I hope you enjoy yours as much as my family and I have enjoyed ours.
